The purpose of the award is to recognize and encourage the efforts of academics, technicals and or professionals of urban studies. Its main objective is to award the excellence in academic research in human development, planning and urban and regional management. The Joan Vilagrasa’s Urban Studies Award focused his atention in studies with a clear civic dimension in the fields of urban and regional planning and policies, society, knowledge and science in general. The award wants to recognize also the contribution of the researcher to questions like the applied research, social cohesion, interdisciplinarity, diffusion of scientific culture, sustainability, and social and institutional consensus.
The award has been given at the University of Lleida during the Tenth Urban Studies Week that has been held in Lleida on 15-17 September 2010.
